Is joining a leads group right for your business?

by Administrator

Over the years Zamar Screen Printing has been in leads groups on and off. It takes a big time investment, as well as a financial investment. So, you really have to start with the question, is joining a leads group right for my business?

Here are some questions to consider:

  1. Are you willing to make the time commitment to make a leads group work for you? It is not enough to show up every week (and showing up every week is important).  When you start a new leads group, you need to conduct at least one weekly one-on-one meeting with a member of the group, until you have made it through all the members.  People do business and refer business to those they know like and trust.  A whole entire other article could be devoted to how to have a successful one-on-one networking meeting, but the key to remember is ask the other person about them and their business, ask them how you can help them and take notes for follow up.  Hopefully, they will reciprocate.  Although members of the group could be prospective clients, think of them more like potential referral partners.
  2. Is your business the type of business that is likely to get leads from people who know, like and trust you? Realize that leads won't happen right away.  People only refer to those who know, like and trust you.  So, you have to build and foster relationships within the group.
  3. Do you have the cash to participate? Most leads group will have anywhere from a $500-$1,000 per year cost associated with them.  Then you have to figure your time as money.  Time is not a hard cost, but if it limits your time to do billable work or make sales, then it should be considered as a cost.  Figure out how many leads that would turn into sales to break even.  Then double that, as your goal for the group.

If you are willing to invest the time and money, and think you could get enough leads that would turn into sales to profit from your investment, then joining a leads group could be a good marketing move.  In our next article we will discuss how to choose a leads group.

If you already are a member of a leads group, having inexpensive, unique promotional products to hand out from time to time can make an impression and give your fellow members something to remember your company.  Or, if you are the speaker at your group, having a promotional product that is useful, memorable and ties in with your business and/or the talk you are giving can make an impression.  Contact us if you want ideas on promotional products that will make your business stand out from the competition.
