Creating an Effective Elevator Commercial

by Administrator

Your elevator pitch is what you say to answer the question, "What do you do?" It should be 30 seconds or less and leave the person who asked the question intrigued and get them to ask follow up questions.

An elevator pitch is much like a sales call introduction.  If done wrong, you have lost the person.  If done correctly, you keep their interest.  In addition to answering the question, "What do you do?" your elevator pitch should also follow the ACE acronym format:
A - Affordable - Let people know you are affordable.
C - Competition - Acknowledge you have competition and how you are different
E - Everyone likes doing business with me because…
Here's how a marketing consultant's elevator pitch might sound:
I'm a professional marketing consultant with a combined 28 years of experience in all areas of marketing and that is what sets me apart from all the other amateurs.    I'm very good at what I do and when a client is a good fit, I more than pay for my services.  Businesses like working with me because I find out quickly what it is they need to grow their business and then guide them along the way to get their marketing done right the first time!
Practice your elevator pitch - make sure it tells people quickly why your product or service is different than your competition.  When in a networking situation, never hand the other person your business card unless they ask for it.  Consider having an inexpensive promotional product to hand out when networking also - such as a refrigerator magnet or pen.   For more ideas on standing out from the competition when networking, contact us and we will be happy to assist.
